LOUIS ROEDERER Brut Nature Philippe Starck
2015
In each appearance of bright bubbles, the intense gold/yellow colour is dotted with luminous reflections. The bouquet, intense and precise, reveals the spring flowers, the Williams pear and the citrus peels. In aeration, aromas of nuts (slightly toasted hazelnuts), hot stone, smoke and cocoa beans develop in crescendo.
The entrance in the mouth is masterful: the palate is devastated by a whirlwind of flavours, a youthful energy, a dynamic in which the acids, the salinity, the stone, the fruit, the creamy texture are juxtaposed and intermingled, a succession of waves that provide a feeling of sudden acceleration, followed by a haughty serenity, Next, the evocation of bitters arises, the slight astringency, which opens the doors of gastronomy and wineiness, without ever surpassing elegance or purity.

It is the story of the rediscovery of a unique farm, a vineyard selected by the seventh generation descendant of Louis Roederer.
Located in the heart of the clay-limestone slopes, rich in molestones of Cumières and Hautvillers, this set of plots did not express any "stress" during the heat and drought of the summer of 2003. Better yet, it produced aromatic, intense and balanced grapes; its wines, vinified separately, plot by plot, would then be distinguished by an aromatic maturity achieved, a creamy texture and a vibrant freshness.
Moderate yields, a rapid harvest, a light debandment due to the warm temperatures of the 2003 summer harvest, the absence of malolactic fermentation, associated with a total fermentation in wood, were some of the "anormal" events that gave rise to a dense, almost astringent matter of an incredible freshness. All this led us to carry out a series of bottle trials. These trials were perfected in 2003, 2004 and 2005 to result in a print run of the 2006 vintage.
In the Brut Nature 2006, three founding notions are expressed:
- Honesty and Truth: it refers to an owner's wine, an "atypical" solar vintage, a singular, clayey and stony land, a maturity achieved.
- Abstraction: it was difficult to apprehend technically, it encourages us to look for the essence and simplify our practises: carry out the harvest of the farm on the same day, proceed with the assembly of the grapes in the press and look for spontaneous fermentations, procure long aging without hustle and work the wines according to the biodynamic rhythms.
- Elegance: implies the search for maximum purity for a balanced ratio of approximately 2/3 Pinot noir and 1/3 Chardonnay, absence of malolactic fermentation, a soft and sensual effervescence, absence of dosage.
