Throughout the eight years, these special harvests are regularly tasted by a group of experts composed of three family members. These experts track the wines and only just before bottling decide if the wine deserves the title of Gran Reserva. If so, the wine will rest bottled in drafts for another eight years, without being disturbed. This distinction has only occurred twenty-two times since 1890.
Since the founding of the winery in 1877 we have always kept a small amount of the most memorable harvests in our private wineries. To commemorate special occasions, we have decided to offer some of these bottles in such a way that wine lovers can enjoy the extraordinary aroma and flavour of our historic vintages.
These delicate old harvests were made many years ago in the most artisanal way, as we continue to do today. They have rested without being disturbed in the depth of our drafts and in our ''cemetery'' slowly ageing, raised and pampered by the passage of time.
Of course, all these wines are Great Reserves, a distinction only granted to the highest quality wines. It all begins when a miraculous combination of the land, the climate and ripening of the grapes produce an exceptional harvest in terms of quality and balance of the components of the fruit. Once the bunches have been harvested and the wine has been vinified, it spends eight years in barrels during which they are passed by hand up to seventeen times.
